“Go instead to my homeland, to my relatives, and find a wife there for my son Isaac.” The servant asked, “But what if I can’t find a young woman who is willing to travel so far from home? Should I then take Isaac there to live among your relatives in the land you came from?” “No!” Abraham responded. “Be careful never to take my son there. For the LORD, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and my native land, solemnly promised to give this land to my descendants. He will send his angel ahead of you, and he will see to it that you find a wife there for my son.”Genesis 24:4-7 NLT
Oftentimes, in life, we are confronted with choices. There are options before us from which to choose in matters that have to do with life and living.
However, as believers, we must be careful to make our choices in the light of God’s word and by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We must take care to know what God has said or is saying over a matter so that we dont go into error.
Abraham, though old and in a new land, had not forgotten God’s instructions to him. He had been told to leave the land of his kindred for another one where God was leading him, and he knew that meant he was not to go back for anything.
As believers called out of worldly lifestyle and living, we are not to go back into the same old world for anything, no matter how pressing the need may be.
Meanwhile, Abraham’s servant presented the option of taking Isaac back to the land where his father came out from, in case no woman was willing to follow Him to marry Isaac. That was a Wrong Option that didn’t resonate with God’s plan for Abraham and his descendants. He was never to go back! All he would need, God would provide as he advanced, but he was never to go back.
Often times, we are under pressure to make decisions which do not tally with God’s instructions for us as believers. The world will offer us various options which may look good but are actually wrong as far as God’s purpose for our lives are concerned. We must not allow the pressures of life lead us out of the will of God. We must not take options that are contrary to God’s instructions.
Abraham was firm in his decision and resolve not to go back to the land where he came out from.
When a person chooses a wrong option, he/she is set for failure, just as is the case when we do academic exams with multiple choice answers. No matter how so near the answer an option is, so long as it is not the correct one but the wrong option, it is failure. Maintaining a strong relationship with the Lord will help us in making and sticking to the right choices in life.
Beloved brother and sister, make a determination to not go back to those things and places you have left behind as you follow Christ. Avoid offers of wrong choices and decisions that look like good alternatives. Rather, stick to the word and instructions of God for you in your pilgrimage.
It is my prayer that you (& I) will not yield to options that are contrary to God’s instructions and will for our lives. May we not desire the WRONG OPTIONS! Amen!
