When God’s Got Your Back!

“Then Abimelech gave Sarah back to Abraham, and at the same time he gave him sheep, cattle, and slaves….He said to Sarah, “I am giving your brother a thousand pieces of silver as proof to all who are with you that you are innocent; everyone will know that you have done no wrong.” Because of what had happened to Sarah, Abraham’s wife, the Lord had made it impossible for any woman in Abimelech’s palace to have children. So Abraham prayed for Abimelech, and God healed him. He also healed his wife and his slave women, so that they could have children.” Genesis 20:14,16-17

In a song that was recently released by a popular gospel Musician in Nigeria, a statement that usually catches my attention was made. She said ” God is He who fights one person but pokes His finger into the eyes of everyone in the household.” This just simply means no one should get in the way of God…everyone along the path may be affected.

This was exactly what I see in the scripture above. A certain situation exposed Sarah to prejudice and danger. There was a need to defend her husband but she became exposed to the possibility of being exploited in the palace of Abimelech. God would have none of that! Both Abraham and Sarah must be preserved; not one at the expense of the other. Then God stepped in; He ensured that the entire household of Abimelech suffered for it, while defending Sarah. God loved Abraham; yet he loved and cared for Sarah as well. 

For the very first time, it occurred to me that the duration of Sarah’s stay in the house of Abimelech was not a few days or weeks or months. She must have stayed really long enough for it to be obvious that no woman in the palace of Abimelech could conceive a child,  because Sarah was held up there. 

I believe that all the women were not trying to conceive the same day and even if they were, it sure would take some time to observe and conclude that pregnancy was not taking place amongst them all. It takes more than one month to confirm this; and now with many women involved. 

Surely, God’s got Sarah’s back!

When this topic dropped in my Spirit, I had to check other sources to get further meaning to the phrase “God’s got your back!” My discovery reveals the following: “God is actively watching over you, defending you, and providing support through whatever challenge you face. It means you are never alone or unprotected. God acts as a shield against hidden dangers or unseen struggles; you can feel safe and comforted during hard times because divine help is present.”

Sarah was submissive enough to agree to defend Abraham, such that God took it upon Himself to equally defend her. Who else could help her in this situation, other than God. Sarah was not only returned to Abraham intact, she was returned with very many additional blessings. God turned the situation around in their favor. 

God cared for Abraham, likewise for Sarah. God cares for you too, because you are the seed of Abraham! Be rest assured that He’s got your back, if you walk in obedience to His will.

In the course of carrying out our duties and fulfilling purpose, may we experience the defending and preservation grace of God. May He fight for us. May we experience a divine turnaround and the divine intervention of God in all ways and at all times. Amen!
