“And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.” Mark 14:54
I’ve been repeatedly going through the Gospel of Mark the past few days. Each time I get to this verse, there’s a touch on my spirit.
I pause to meditate on what Peter got himself into: warming himself with the fire of those who mock and are set to crucify Jesus. I kept wondering how Peter could feel comfortable in the company of his enemies. I marvelled at how easy it was for him to “sit in the seat of the scornful” Psalm 1:1
As believers, there are places and things that we must not feel comfortable sitting with or before. There are TV programs that we should not be found sitting comfortably before; there are companys, discussions, deliberations that we must not become comfortable with. There is a need for us to stand out and stand off, regardless of the consequences. It is better to identify with Jesus and stand in the cold, than to sit comfortably with the enemies of Jesus Christ and the warmth that their fire provides.

Beloved, is there something of the enemy that gives you comfort? You are in the wrong place and boat!! I plead with you to get up and get out! Don’t sit comfortably, enjoying the fire of the enemy which has the potential of roasting you eternally!
As I meditate on this, I pray that nothing of the enemy will be attractive to me (& you); nothing of the enemy (regardless of how good it looks) will make me comfortable. I pray that I will not find a seat among the scornful but to wholly delight in dwelling in the presence of the Lord only. Amen!
