TRACED TO HER DOORSTEP!
“Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.) And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison,… Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying. “And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.” Acts 12:1-13 (KJV)
The decision could not have been otherwise for Peter, that after his deliverance from the claws of Herod, he thought of no other place to go but a particular house where people were gathered praying. It was obvious that the gathering of these praying men and women at Mary’s house was not taking place for the first time.
It must have been a regular pattern for them to meet together at the house of Mary to pray and so it was not difficult for Peter to have thought of going there because he was sure to meet a praying group. There he was, and thus, he met them praying, not just for any other issue but for the Church and Peter’s deliverance.
They prayed for the advancement of God’s Kingdom and against whatever was going to oppose it in their days.
It looked like a coincidence that Peter arrived at the time prayer was still hot but what a glorious coincidence.
What an honour for Mary, whose house had become a prayer resort and people had no other business there but to pray! What an honour that the prayer that moved the Hands of God to bring deliverance to Peter was traced to her house! What privilege Mary had to be the first recipient of Peter (who seemed lost to the claws of Herod) into her house. What honour could be greater than knowing that what led to the deliverance of Peter was traced to her doorsteps?
Beloved, what can Heaven trace to you? What issues of the Kingdom of God can be traced to you and to your doorsteps?
Today, a lot of frivolous things are traced to the doorsteps of many believers. These are things that have no relevance to the issues of God’s Kingdom: gossips, backbiting, foolish jestings, unwholesome talks, evil scheming and mundane things etc.
Mary, opened the door of her house for prayers that effected change and brought about the destruction of a proud king.
Her house was not for gathering of cowards who were hiding from Herod but for bold people who will hold the horns by the altar. Her house was not for parties and meaningless get-together but for Kingdom assignment!
In many parts of the World today, there are kings (situations) bragging against the purpose and people of God. There are people who like Peter, are incarcerated and deliverance will only come as we avail ourselves to pray. There are believers who are tortured all because of Christ. There are women who have become widows because their husbands were slain for preaching the gospel. There are children going through social injustice because their parents stand for Christ but deliverance will come as we pray! There are missionaries facing serious risks, needs and challenges but help will come as we pray and release the resources at our disposal. There are situations needing you to commit yourself and possibly the resources at your disposal to advancing God’s Kingdom where you are based and for other parts of the World. The salvation of many may depend on your faithful commitment to the cause of the gospel in some way.
Peter’s ministry on Earth continued because a woman’s home was made available for prayer.
What resource will you make available for the progress of the gospel? What labour will you put and what sacrifice will you make so that God’s purpose will continue to move forward on Earth?
May Heaven trace issues that will advance God’s Kingdom on Earth to your doorstep and directly to you. Amen!
