CHOICES!

“By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible”. Hebrews 11:24-27 (KJV)

Every mortal being is wired with the power of choices. Right from childhood, we all make choices and in most cases, the choices are self-centered. When confronted with choices, we usually will choose the ones that are more comfortable for us; favorable to us; convenient for us or advantageous to us, even though some of them may be potentially harmful. That is simply the natural tendencies of any human being.

Choice is a powerful force in life! It is capable of completely changing the course of a life; it is capable of making or marring a life; capable of building or destroying a destiny; capable of bringing progress or destruction. For this reason, as believers, we have to be careful about the choices we make. When we live in intimacy with God, it becomes easier to be led by the Lord as a Shepherd does. As the sheep, we are safer when we choose to follow the Shepherd.

Many times, believers blame others; or even blame the Lord outrightly for the consequences of their choices, but God has left us with the power to make our choices and so He does not choose for us but rather leads us to choose (for those who care to heed His leading). That is also why accepting Christ is not forced upon any one but those who choose to accept God’s offer of salvation through Christ. If therefore you have not chosen Christ as the only way of salvation, I encourage you to do so. No one else will be responsible for the consequences of your refusal.

As believers, we should choose to live holy and acceptable lives. Christ lives in us and through us to the extent we allow Him and the help we need is also available when we seek it from the Lord. No believer is helpless as far as living godly lives is expected, it is the choices we make towards this that matters.

We must make our choices from eternal perspectives. When we fail to, we miss out in what God has in store for us. If Joseph had chosen to accept the offer of Mrs Portipher, he would have lost the throne that was waiting for him in the future. He rather chose to fear and obey God, even though he went through a tough time afterwards, that was what led him to the throne. That is the power that choice has on a person!

Beloved, what choices are you confronted with, that are capable of ruining your future? I encourage you to decline making such choices but to rather choose, having God in your focus. A choice made to satisfy the flesh at the expense of obeying God, is a disaster looming! Please MAKE YOUR CHOICES FROM ETERNAL PERSPECTIVES! Don’t be too carried away by the immediate gratification of your choice without weighing it in the light of eternity.

Moses, was confronted with making CHOICES. He could have chosen to continue with the enjoyment of the palace without identifying with the Israelites but he rather made a choice the other way. It was a CHOICE that eventually put his feet on the path of destiny. By all standards, the palace was more comfortable a place to choose but Moses had learnt to understand that the ways of God may not be through the comfort we desire. He chose to “…Esteem the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt”. This truly is not an easy thing, but a possible thing to do. There was an understanding of God that Moses had. Under natural human conditions, the treasures in Egypt is what people will choose because they are a lot of things that appeal to the flesh (lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life). The reproach of Christ is not something any natural person would like to experience, except by a believer that is truly crucified. However, Moses made a choice to suffer affliction with the people of God, and for the Reproach of Christ than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season. The pleasures of sin may be so attractive and desirable but I counsel you to rather choose obedience to the Lord and turn away from every form of sin. To live a godly life as a Christian, there are reproaches of Christ that you will suffer; there are paths of dishonor that you will tread but understand that a glory awaits you after whatever unpleasant situation you go through in choosing to go the way of the Lord!

Make a decision today, to turn away from every ungodly, non-God-glorifying choices you have made or planning to make and choose to go in the way of the Lord. As we get to the threshold of another year, I encourage you to make your CHOICES FROM AN ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE and it shall be well with you. Amen!

May grace be multiplied unto you (& I) to make our choices in submission to, and by the leading and influence of the Holy Spirit. Amen
