What Do You Desire?

One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord.” Psalm 27:4

Having desires, longings or aspirations is one of the characteristics of Man.
In every human, desires are present in one way or another and are expressed in various ways. Even children have desires and you hear them express or demonstrate it at their own levels and understanding.
Desires are expectations which one look forward to, being met. Desires may vary based on age, location, gender etc

However, as Christians, our desires must not run wild, neither be patterned after the flesh or the dictates of the World. Our desires must be within the limits and confines of the Word of God.

Any longing, aspirations, expectations or desires that go outside the scope of the instructions or Word of God is a click in an error button. The outcome can be disastrous.

My dear reader, what do you desire? What are your desires? What do you long for and you will go to any extent to have, outside of the will and purpose of God for your life? May I plead with you, that you turn away from the path of erroneous desires. Turn away from things that do not honour or glorify God, because on the long run, it will not pay you.

Don’t lay your hands on those desirous offers of the enemy. Refuse them and flee.

In the passage above, David expressed his one desire as
“to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple”. Of course this does not mean he had nothing more than that do in life. David had all the natural desires a normal human being would have. He only placed his desires for God above all else. He longed to fellowship with God, with the understanding that every other thing will be added. He placed value on Intimacy with God as a prerequisite to a fulfilling and fruitful life.
David made us understand, from vs5, that many other things will take shape when and after we have placed our priorities and desires in the proper places.

All the things that you pursue and are concerned about in life will begin to fall in place when you give attention to seeking God.
Don’t let the challenges and cares of life, take the place of God in your life.
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, all these things will be added unto you” Matthew 6:33

We must take heed not to allow the cares of this world occupy our hearts at the expense of giving attention to Intimacy with God. Is your desire for God and the things of His Kingdom, getting diminished in your life, please ask God to create in you afresh, a desire for Him, a hunger and thirst for righteousness and a longing for fellowship with Him.

Make a conscious effort to desire God more and more and it shall be well with you & (me). Amen
